The habit for the next 2 weeks is eating slowly.
After practicing this the first week I realized there are 2 ways that I can accomplish this.
I can distract myself with another activity. I can do something else while I eat in order to show down. For me this ends up being pretty mindless and doesn't really address my issues with eating being just another task to get done. It does however distract me and as long as I don't have a lot of finger food I'm ok. Honestly conversation falls into this category since it really just distracts me from stuffing my face but doesn't really change the approach to food.
The other option is to be completely into the food that I'm eating and remembering to enjoy it. This is actually really hard for me. First when I like what I'm eating I want to scarf it down. I can't get enough fast enough. Second if I don't like it (veggies) I just want to get it over with.
Probably my best bet for the near term is to focus on slowing down eating the tasty food and really try to enjoy every part of it. For things like veggies I probably shouldn't focus on anything but getting more at this point. Assuming I can actually keep these 2 straight, I might have a chance.
